BYT/Ashridge Creative Thinking
09 July 2009

On Wednesday 8th July 2009, 28 members of the BYT network, participated in an evening event which was led by Chris Nichols , Director of Strategy Engagement, Ashridge Consulting. Each of the invitees had between 10 and 20 years experience in a wide variety of organisations and roles. The event was part of the continued commitment of BYT to partner with experts to deliver high quality networking events where the attendees experience some coaching and stimulus on critical aspects of business and leadership.

Delegates met at the London Canal Museum, a quirky and unique location which was the perfect spot for a creative session focused on ways to "Unstick Your Thinking!"   The session was based on building awareness of how common cognitive filters influence the data we see in the environment and limit our possible choices. Chris showed how to spot these filters and shared, in a practical and energetic way, several easy techniques for avoiding them!  "My work is about helping people to recognise the lenses we all look through so often that we don't even see that they are there" says Chris. "The techniques I use with groups are easy to learn and can help all managers and leaders to take a look through some alternative windows, to get a better view of the strategic environment, customer needs, and product development. The result is richer thinking, better risk awareness and a much more engaged team".

The feedback from delegates has been very positive with comments such as:

"Meeting like minded folk in a convivial atmosphere was really useful. Ashridge were a definite motivator to attend and they delivered on my expectations!"

"The seminar content and style was pitched right. It was thought provoking, provided useful tools and was interactive and fun. The networking opportunities prior and post the seminar were timed right and the participants were open, friendly and eager to share relevant experiences.

BYT and Ashridge will hold further events in Autumn. Find out more about Chris Nichols here and download one of his articles on creative strategic thinking here.
